For the world’s welfare, the Buddha renounced wealth, son, wife, limbs, and life. Having fulfilled the perfections and the factors of enlightenment, incomparable even to the gods, he attained pure awakening. As the bestower of all virtues, supreme in the three worlds, he made an end to suffering and liberated from suffering the people who had done what is good. 2. 2. Having paid homage to that Conqueror, who has accumulated merit, the sole kinsman of the entire world—by the greatness of his wholesomeness there is none his equal on earth, much less his superior—listen to me as I speak of his vast, immaculate accumulation of the requisites for enlightenment: the cause and its corresponding fruit, the result attained by the Well-farer. Verses Illuminating the Accomplishments of the Meditator 3. 3. One who is born in the ninth supramundane moment, a bearer of the teachings, with faculties purified by virtue; having seen the auspicious and secure state that brings the destruction of existence, transcending saṃsāra; honoring that sage who teaches the path for its attainment, may I then, through the development of practices beginning with recollection of the Buddha, realize that auspicious state. Verses on the Purification of the Subject Matter 4. 4.
